Providing the right quantity in the right order, at the right time in the right place – that’s just-in-sequence, and after just-in-time the new challenge in the automotive industry. In a second project expansion step, Audi Hungaria attempted to meet this challenge within the scope of a collaboration between COPA-DATA, SAP AG and Prozesstechnik Kropf GmbH. A bi-directional data exchange between the process and business level was intended to optimize the coordination between the transport preparation and delivery, in order to enable a perfect chain of events.
In 2005 the Audi plant in Györ initiated a step-by-step optimization of a 5 km-long conveyor system with the help of zenon. Since then, the software has been providing the visualization of all the status and control information in a central location. Processes are easily traceable through the acquisition of important data, for example, the pallet number, motor number (serial number), engine type and stock movement (= dispatch and handover side), which provides a better overview of the overall plant. Even back then, an idea was on the table to create an interface between the SAP ERP system and the process control system in the future. The special advantage: a smooth data exchange and thus an optimally coordinated transportation. However, the zenon predecessor system wasn’t able to satisfactorily cover these requirements. But since zenon was already being used successfully by Audi in Germany and fulfilled all the system requirements, the project managers in Györ also opted for an implementation of the software from COPA-DATA.
